Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Development journalism focuses on addressing issues that hinder social and economic progress, often advocating for policy reforms and community empowerment. In Jama’are LGA, Bauchi State, development journalism has become an influential tool in promoting rural electrification projects. By highlighting the challenges faced by rural communities, such as inadequate access to electricity and its impact on education, health, and livelihoods, journalists stimulate discussions and attract the attention of policymakers and investors (Garba & Ibrahim, 2023). Rural electrification is critical to improving living standards and fostering economic growth, and development journalism plays a vital role in mobilizing support and ensuring accountability in project implementation.
